Sony announced that Sony PlayStation 4 will support PlayStation 2 games soon through emulation after Microsoft announced that Xbox One will support Xbox 360 games.
Sony confirmed to Wired, that the company is currently working on the compatibility with PlayStation 2 games on PlayStation 4. The first PS2 game for PS4 is already out, and it is available in the market, which runs with emulators in PS4 console. Star Wars: Battlefront comes with Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. In the above list, the last three games were running on an emulator application in the PS4 console.
The Sony PlayStation 2 games will perfectly run over the PlayStation 4 console, as same as running in its native environment. The Emulator creates an environment for the game, which allows the game to run smoothly.
The Company representative mentioned in a statement as,
“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation” and also added “We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”
While compared to previous models, PlayStation 4 is released without having backwards compatibility and which started a huge criticism of the device. Finally, the company has given a new hope for PlayStation 2 gamers. So that, they can play their old PlayStation 2 games on PlayStation 4 with improved graphics and also supports higher resolution.
The company, mentioned that PS2-to-PS4 initiative is not only with this Star Wars game, but also, the company has planned for more in the future. During the testing, a group of testers was starting to play PS2 Star Wars game on the PlayStation 4, they noticed that the game started with older PlayStation 2 logo, which is upscale to the native resolution of PlayStation 4. The functioning of the older game in PlayStation 4 will bring out new hope for the PlayStation gamers.
