Scientists have found a possible way to treat the Alzheimer’s disease by the Tetrahydrocannabinol and other related compounds, which are found in cannabis because they have hemp oil which is good for medicinal purposes. Salk Institute scientists, based on their research mentioned that the brain damaging effects that the Alzheimer’s disease causes can be treated by the marijuana plants. It is because, the cannabis can improve the removal of the toxic amyloid beta, which is one of the effects of the illness. Although the cannabis can be neuroprotective, it can affect both inflammation and amyloid beta accumulation in nerve cells is what the research papers say. It might indicate that new therapeutics can be developed to treat the illness which helps us understand the role of inflammation.
We all know how Alzheimer’s disease can affect the daily tasks because of the severe memory loss to a patient. This is because of the link of amyloid beta to cellular inflammation as well as neuron death. The major damage occurs when the inflammation occurs in the brain due to Alzheimer’s disease. It was earlier thought that it is based on the response was coming from an immune-like cells in the brain, not the nerve cells themselves, but now it has been found out that THC-like compounds were involved in protecting the cells from dying depending on the inflammatory response to amyloid beta in a molecular basis.
In preliminary studies, they developed Neurons. Cannabis compounds such as THC and others were brought to the laboratory to and as a response to the tests conducted, the compound enabled the nerve cells to live through it, but not only that, it also decreased the amyloid beta protein levels and also wiped out the inflammatory response from nerve cells due to the protein.
